WORK has started on a £90,000 revamp for the play area in Warrington’s Whitecross Park.
The project will transform the look and feel of the play area, and make it fully inclusive for children of all abilities.
Improvements will include the replacement of existing play equipment – aimed at children aged 2-8 – with brand new equipment.
The investment will also see the play area given a ‘Sankey Canal’ theme – complete with paintings of water, canal boats, swans, fish and ducks – chosen following consultation with the local community. The far corner of the play area – which currently slopes down – will also be levelled.
Work is scheduled to be completed on 28 June. Grant funding of £50,000 was awarded by FCC Environment through WREN’s FCC Community Action Fund for the scheme, with the council providing the remainder of the funding for the project.
