New homes for old shops plan is approved

PLANS to demolish four old shops and replace them with three pairs of semi-detached houses at Fearnhead have been approved by councillors – despite objections from nearby residents.
More than 20 residents and Poulton-with-Fearnhead Parish Council had opposed the scheme.
Members of the borough council’s development management committee were told many of the objections related to a public footpath that ran through the site, linking Orchard Street with Station Road.
Over the years, this footpath had been the source of considerable anti-social behaviour and residents were concerned that extending the path would exacerbate the problem.
But the committee was told that path current had a bend in it which blocked a clear view from one end of the path to the other. This led to the anti-social behaviour problems.
It was proposed to remove the bend so that there would be a view right through the area, which it was hoped would reduce the problem.
The committee decided the scheme would result in provision of sustainable housing, close to facilities and granted permission.
