A FLY-tipper who dumped rubbish on a Warrington housing estate has been ordered to pay £752.50
Phillip Bishop, 37, of Watkin Street, pleaded guilty to fly-tipping at Warrington Magistrates Court and was fined £200, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £30, clean-up costs of £172.50 and £350 legal costs.
The court heard that on May 25 last year Bishop borrowed a van from a friend, for the purposes of removing waste for another friend, who he charged £50 for the service. He then illegally deposited the waste on a terraced housing estate at Mason Street and Villars Street, Howley.
Local residents were disturbed by the noise of the waste being tipped and managed to prevent Bishop from escaping in his vehicle. As a result, he ran off. The police were called, and the vehicle was seized.
An investigation by Warrington Borough Council’s environmental crime team led to the defendant..
After the hearing, Cllr Judith Guthrie (pictured), the council’s lead member for environment and public protection, said: “This is a good example of the strong action we are taking against those who deliberately blight our neighbourhoods.
“Our message to people like Mr Bishop is clear – fly-tipping will not be tolerated, and you risk prosecution and a large fine. We all have a responsibility to keep our borough clean and tidy, and I would urge the public to continue to work with us to identify those who show disregard to the people of Warrington with these actions.”
