Second Brexit demonstration planned for Market Gate

THE Warrington4Brexit group plans another peaceful demonstration at Market Gate tomorrow (Saturday) and have also written an open letter to the town’s two MPs calling for them to oppose a proposed amendment in parliament next Tuesday.

The demonstration will take place between 11am and 1pm and follows one held last Saturday which organisers claim was a huge success.

Members of the group – which attracts cross-party support – are targeting people who want to overturn the result of the 2016 referendum and to follow the democratic will of the people who voted.

The majority of those attending last week’s event said they would prefer leaving Europe with “no deal” if a deal couldn’t be agreed.

Prior to the referendum, Warrington was listed as “the seventh most Eurosceptic town in Britain.”

In the referendum, 62,487 Warrington people voted to leave Europe – 54.3 per cent.

A total of 52,657 voted to remain – 45.7 per cent.

Meanwhile following a meeting in Woolston last night the Warrington4Brexit group have written an open letter to the town’s two Mps, Faisal Rasid and Helen Jones, calling on them to “vote down” an amendment by Labour MP Yvette Cooper, which seeks to extend Article 50 and take a “no deal” brexit off the table.

The letter reads as follows

“Dear Helen and Faisal,
Following a unanimous vote at the meeting of Warrington4Brexit last night, we call upon you as our MPs to vote down the Yvette Cooper amendment on Tuesday, which seeks to extend Article 50 and take a ‘No Deal’ Brexit off the negotiation table.
We remind you that Warrington voted by a decisive 54.3 majority to LEAVE in the 2016 Referendum. We call on you to honour your manifesto pledge as Labour MPs to respect the Referendum result and the Leave votes cast by 62,487 Warringtonians. Not to do so would be a betrayal of the electorate.
The Yvette Cooper amendment is a cynical, anti-democratic ploy to sabotage Brexit by delaying our leaving date beyond 29th March and then overturning the Referendum result completely.
It is your duty to the electorate of Warrington to vote the amendment down.
Yours faithfully,
Warrington4Brexit Group (610 members)
