UPDATED: FIRE crews needed specialist cutting equipment to rescue a trapped lorry driver following a multi-vehicle collision on the M6 at Warrington earlier today (Tuesday).
Firefighters attended at the scene after a road traffic collision between two lorries and a car at the junction 22 Winwick Link Road.
One person was trapped inside a lorry and crews removed the casualty from the vehicle before handing them over into the care of paramedics.
Two lanes were closed while the trapped driver was cut free.
One fire engine from Warrington, one fire engine from Birchwood, one fire engine and the Major Rescue Unit from Winsford and one fire engine and two specialist appliances from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, attended the incident.
The North West air ambulance landed in a nearby field but was not required.
The driver, who is believed to have escaped serious injury, was taken to Warrington Hospital.
