CONSULTANTS, doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, theatre practitioners, directors, managers and friends from Warrington and Halton hospitals will take to the streets on Sunday for the Chester Marathon.
The group, WHH Clinicians and Friends, are running to raise funds to bring the Serious Illness Care Programme to Warrington and Halton Hospitals.
Prof Simon Constable, executive medical director and ‘Marathon ringleader’ said: “If we can raise enough money then WHH will be the first Acute Trust in the UK to implement the programme.
“This gives us a unique opportunity to make a real difference to our patients’ care and experience on bein?g diagnosed with/learning to live with life-limiting conditions.”
Themed ‘Better Conversations’ the timing, frequency and quality of serious illness conversations with patients can be optimised. Evidence shows that this leads to patients feeling happier, more in control and better able to achieve their goals and priorities during their illness.
Prof Constable continued:“We have a range of ages, abilities and fitness levels running on Sunday and our squad has been desperately trying to train in between shifts – and has sustained a range of injuries in the process! We’ll definitely be relying on the crowd to get us round on the day!”
