Pro-Europe campaigners set to join march

MORE than 1,300 people have responded to Warrington for Europe’s call to join campaigners from all over the UK to march in Liverpool on Sunday.
The Labour party conference is in the city and will be debating more than 150 motions on Brexit, including many calls for a “People’s vote” on the final deal. Labour has set six tests for Brexit and if they’re not met won’t back the final deal in Parliament.
Warrington for Europe’s chairman Graham Gowland said it was thought Labour was set to move to oppose Brexit, and support the final deal being put to the public for a democratic say on the actual, negotiated deal.
Members of the cross-party group hope local MP’s will heed calls from their constituents and back the motions put forward by constitutional Labour parties across Britain.
Mr Gowland said: “Given the damage Brexit would do to Warrington, it’s hard to see why either Helen Jones or Faisal Rashid would support the direction Theresa May has taken. Polling shows only 27 per cent of Labour voters believe that leaving the EU is the right thing to do, but 68 per cent of people believe Labour’s position on Brexit to be unclear. At this point it is essential Labour take a clear stand in line with their supporters views, and the national interest.”
The march has been called to support Labour taking this position against Brexit, and sets off from St Georges Plateau in Liverpool at noon on Sunday.
A train from Warrington leaves Central Station at 10.37am, and Liverpool Lime Street station is next to the assembly point. Warrington for Europe will be found under the flags of Lancashire and Cheshire from 11.30am onwards. More details can be found at www.marchforthemany.co.uk
