THOUSANDS of runners took to the streets of Warrington for the annual English Half Marathon, many raising thousands of pounds for charity.
An estimated 7,000 runners took part in the 10th annual event in either a 10k or half marathon, with thousands more cheering on the runners.
Runners included a team from warrington-worldwide, raising money for the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace,Warrington South MP Faisal Rashid, who was running in memory of his mother, for two charities close to his heart, elite runners and club runners of all ages and abilities, along with many novices, including myself.
For many it involved a personal challenge as I embarked on my first ever 10k event, after starting my fitness journey nearly two years ago and my running journey in January of this year – the 25th anniversary of the Warrington bombing and the 50th anniversary of my family business – and the 10th anniversary of this now iconic event in the annual calendar.
Having only run a few 5ks in my training, the buzz of taking part and being cheered on along the route got me and many others over the line on our personal journeys.
A big thank you to event organiser Rob Griffiths for encouraging me to take part in the event I first covered as a reporter 10 years ago. Little did I know I would eventually end up taking part – and I suspect I will be back for more next year – may be even the half marathon next time.
I would urge Warrington to get behind this event as not only does it provide a boost to the local economy it encourages people to look after their own health and well being, which is becoming more and more important as the pressures grow on our health service with an ageing population.
There is certainly no better way of keeping fit and staying focused.
Thanks to this I will now be a regular at the Park Run at Victoria Park on Saturday mornings and who knows where this journey will end?
It is simply inspiring and uplifting, great for the mind, body and soul and our town of Warrington.

This is Robyn Harrison, she is a disabled teenager who was told she would never walk…
Today she completed the EHM 10k raising money and awareness for the charity who has supported her ‘Stick ‘n’ Step’.
We’re so proud of Robyn and hope to see her back next year. #runEHM pic.twitter.com/sTcWoUAgQk
