Work to start on “Greenheart” of giant development site

SOFT landscaping operations are about to start on the “Greenheart” at the centre of the Omega South site at Warrington.
Omega Warrington Ltd (OWL) say the work will see a range of new wildlife habitats introduced into the area.
Cultivation and seeding of wildflora meadows and wetland wildflora dujring September will bring colour to the Greenheart next spring and summer, and in the forthcoming winter period new woodland areas will be established with the planting of thousands of mixed deciduous and evergreen tree species, and new hedgerow.
Development director for Miller Developments Colin Graham said: “OWL is thrilled to be moving on to the next stage of this significant landscaping project. Whilst it will take a little while to mature, the immediate benefits will be evident from next spring onward. We hope that once all works are completed, the Greenheart will be a beautiful greenspace that Omega workers and local residents in Warrington can enjoy.”
The new Greenheart will be publicly accessible and will provide a valuable educational resource for the Barrow Hall Primary School on Sofia Drive.
Elsewhere, the Greenheart has been designed to restrict public access so that established wildlife, such as the Great Crested Newt and Skylarks, can flourish and hopefully new and a diverse range of new species will make it their new home.
As with the earthworks and ground modelling contract, D H Morgan will be responsible for undertaking the works together with their recently appointed landscape sub-contractor Brambledown.
Morgan will be responsible for the maintenance of the Greenheart for a period of 12 months once completed, before it is handed over to the Land Trust who will then maintain the park in perpetuity.

  1. This is disingenuous veneer. What happened to the “ecological protection zones” (sic) that were to be protected/retained whilst work proceeded? And what of those “important” (sic) hedgerows, boundary woodland and mature trees. What OWL is hooting about will amount to little more than a manicured landscaping exercise with scant regard if any, of those original “important” ecological features.

  2. Will there be adequate parking on site for visitors so that local residents wont be affected and will access roads be away from already established residential estates??
