FORMER Warrington sporting star Lily May Jackson celebrated her 100th Birthday with a trip down memory lane.

Born and raised in Warrington, Lily May Jackson – nee Adcroft – has an impressive history and celebrated her landmark birthday with a visit to the town hall to meet the Mayor Karen Mundry.

During her school years, where she attended Beamont School, Lily excelled at all sports including Netball and Rounders where the speed of her delivery was the scourge of all the opposition.

Lily was recognised for her sporting skill when a photograph of her receiving a trophy from the Mayor was published in the local paper on 27th February 1932!

Now 86 years on, Lily was invited to the Town Hall to meet with the current Mayor Karen Mundry, to celebrate her landmark birthday and reminisce her impressive past!

Lily started her employment at the young age of 14, where she started work in the cotton mill although she had hoped for an office job! However, several years of hard work later, Lily finally got the office job she had dreamed of and was able to hang up her tools – 4 of which she donated to Warrington Museum where they are still on permanent display as part of Warrington’s story as a Cotton Town!

For much of her life, Lily’s main hobby was knitting –which her son describes her to be Olympic class and even now her wardrobe still includes many items she has knitted for herself over the years!

As the years progressed, Lily began to lose her sight, but she didn’t let this slow her down and still attends weekly meetings at the VIP (visually impaired people) centre, where she enjoys a bite to eat and a catch up with her friends.

A fiercely independent lady, Lily only moved into round the clock residential care with Catalyst Choices at Woodleigh  nine months ago, at the astounding age of 99 – and this is where she celebrated her 100th Birthday!

Lily started her birthday with a pamper session – hair and make up included – followed by a party with all of her family, friends and Catalyst Staff in attendance!

The party was organised by two Catalyst Choices support workers, Sam Woods and Chelsea Baker, who adorned the halls of Woodleigh Residential Home with numerous balloons, decorations and photographs of Lily from over the years. A lovely day fit for a wonderful lady!
