Warrington athletics trio selected to represent Cheshire

SEVEN runners from Warrington Athletic Club took part in the Birchwood 10km road race, with three athletes representing Cheshire for the first time.

First to finish was Cheshire debutant Tom Greaves in 16th place with a time of 35 minutes 11 seconds.

Lymm resident Steve Watmough was next to finish and was also representing Cheshire for the first time. Steve took silver in the over 55 age group competition, and was 25th overall with 36 minutes 18 seconds.

David Gill, from Grappenhall, also representing Cheshire for the first time, won the over 60 age group competition and was 51st overall with 38 minutes 42 seconds.

Mervyn Ward from Cinnamon Brow completed the club team, finishing 2nd in the over 60 age group competition and 96th overall with 40 minutes 58 seconds.

And the Warrington AC  (Tom, Steve, Dave and Mervyn) finished in 3rd place in 2 hours 31 minutes 09 seconds.

Louise Blizzard, from Cinnamon Brow, finished close behind Mervyn in 101st place in 41 minutes 25 seconds and was 14th woman and 5th in the over 40 women’s age group competition.

Kelly Crossley finished 26th woman in 182nd place overall and was 4th in the over 35 age group competition.

Completing the club competitors was Dave Tomkins in 335th place overall with 49 minutes 27 seconds placing him 2nd in the over 70 age group competition.
