How the Environment Agency deals with emergencies – an open day

0

ENVIRONMENT Agency chiefs will be holding their first-ever incident management open day at Warrington’s Victoria Park on Tuesday, July 10 between 10am and 2pm.
The agency will be demonstrating the wide range of vehicles and equipment it has available to respond quickly and efficiently when an incident occurs
Members of the public will be able to get up close to innovative and hi-tech equipment and hear about the expertise and processes used during an incident.
Whether it’s flooding, fisheries, environmental incidents or air quality related, there will be the opportunity to meet the teams and view state-of-the-art equipment using the latest technologies.
Partner agencies will be involved in the day, including the emergency services, the Highways Agency, the military, and a range of voluntary organisations which all help to keep people, properties and the environment safe.
But with numerous incidents currently on-going throughout the North West United Utilities will unfortunately be unable to attend.
There will be the opportunity to take a tour and see live drone footage from an mobile Incident Command Unit; see how our mobile pumps and barriers operate; view our air quality monitoring equipment; see how we use sandbags and how we use analysis and reporting techniques to protect water quality and look after fish.
Visitors will also be able to learn more about flood risk in their local area, sign up for free flood warnings and hear how communications and engagement teams play a role in keeping the public and MPs up-to-date during an incident.
Christian Wilcox, from the Environment Agency said:
“We are really proud of our emergency response and the huge amount of expertise we have in the Environment Agency. Our open day is a great opportunity for us to bring some of the work we do to life with lots of stands, interesting kit and people to explain what it’s all for.
“We hope everyone from the local community who attends finds it informative and enjoys learning more about what we do.”
