Peat fire threatens gas installation at Warrington

A GAS pipe was threatened when fire broke out involving peat at Rixton, Warrington.
Firefighters from Birchwood went to the scene in Holly Bush Lane and used a water backpack and shovels to put out the fire, which was just above the pipe.
Gas engineers were called to the scene but no gas was found to be leaking from the pipe.
In another incident, firefighters went to St Bride’s Close, Penketh when controlled burning set fire to grass and cuttings. They used a hose reel jet to extinguish the blaxe.
Shortly before 10am today, a fire crew from Stockton Heath was called to Chessington Close, Appleton, where a grass fire involving dry leaves was reported.
A hand appliance was used to extinguish the blaze.
