HOMES and businesses in Warrington town centre were left without water this morning after an 18 inch water main on the A49 was damaged.
United Utilities were investigating the incident which left some properties without water at all and others with a reduced supply.
A spokesman said: “A third party has caused damaged to an 18 inch main – which is quite a large one – on the A49 Wilderspool Causeway. We have sent engineers to the scene to investigate.
“We will also be trying to bring water into the affected area by different routes.”
Businesses in Sankey Street were affected – and at least one hairdresser was contacting customers warning them not to turn up because their supply had been cut off
United Utilities said the problems were affecting the WA5, WA4, WA2 and WA1 postal areas.
He added: “We’re sorry about this and will try and get your taps flowing normally as quickly as we can. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we know what’s causing the problem.”
