PLANS for a new 3G sports pitch with floodlights, fencing and steel storage container have been approved at Birchwood High School.
Warrington Borough Council’s development management committee gave the go-ahead after hearing that the existing artificial turf pitch at the school is in a deteriorating conditions.
The new facility will have six 15m high floodlights, 4.5m high fencing and a steel storage container sites around the pitch.
There were no objections to the scheme.
The committee was told there would be no increase in the use of the site as there was no increase in the number of pitches.
Traffic on nearby roads would not be affected because of the downwards alignment of the lighting and the nearest homes were far enough away to be unaffected.
Sport England and the Football Foundation are supportive of the scheme which, with a new and improved surface and increased spectator provision will increase participation in sport in the area.
