Golden Square evacuated after fire fear

WARRINGTON’S Golden Square was evacuated this afternoon after a sprinkler system was accidentally set off causing fears of a fire in the shopping centre.

Fire crews attended at the scene at around 3pm after a sprinkler system had been accidentally set off by contractors working in the former British Homes Stores unit, which is currently being transformed into a state of the art bowling alley and associated recreation facilities by Superbowl UK.

Fears that there was a fire at Golden Square Shopping Centre in Warrington this afternoon proved to be unfounded. Contractors had accidentally set off sprinklers at the former British Homes Stores unit, which caused a fire alarm to go off. pic.twitter.com/sSarGjXZmF
