FAISAL Rashid, MP for Warrington South, attended an event in Parliament to hear more about how defibrillators can save lives.
The event was organised by the Oliver King Foundation, which is working to increase the provision of lifesaving defibrillators across the UK, campaigning for secure legislation that will ensure every school has access to a lifesaving defibrillator and is raising awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
Cardiac Arrest can affect people of any age and without warning. Every week 12 young people aged between 12 -35 die from sudden cardiac arrest. Chances of survival decrease by 10 per cent for every minute of delay in medical treatment. Added to this there are an estimated 28,000 who suffer cardiac arrest in England outside of hospital every year.
During the event Faisal pledged his support to the Oliver King Foundation’s campaign.
Mr Rashid said: “I am proud to become a lifesaving Defibrillator Champion for Warrington South.
“It was interesting to hear from the Oliver King Foundation how many lives can, and have been, saved with the early use of a Defibrillator. Only 1 in every 10 survive a Cardiac Arrest. However, survival rates as high as 75 per cent have been reported with early use of a Defibrillator.
“It is crucial that we spread awareness of the need for this equipment in our communities, which is why I will be campaigning to get more lifesaving defibrillators in Warrington South.”
