A FATHER-and-son running duo from Warrington have won the first ever London Landmarks Half Marathon – breaking a Guinness World Record in the process.
Ben Green and his father Graham Green crossed the line in one hour 10 minutes and 57 seconds and one hour 13 minutes and 50 seconds respectively to win the event, setting a new Guinness World Record for the “Fastest Father and Son Combined Time in a Half Marathon”
Ben said: “We smashed the record and it will be tough for someone to beat that time, so we’re really happy!”
Graham added: “When Ben was little I was in my 20s and running, then he started when he was a school boy and as he grew up we started running together.”
Regarding the brand new event and route, Ben commented: “The course is amazing, I would say it’s up there with the London Marathon course. It’s pretty special because of the number of landmarks, it’s great for spectators too.”
The event was hailed a “huge success” by the event organisers, the charity Tommy’s, as reports came in that they had exceeded their £4,000,000 fundraising target, with more donations expected in the coming weeks.
Almost 10,000 runners started the event, which began on Pall Mall and finished on Whitehall near Downing Street, with more than 40,000 spectators  on the 13.1 mile route.
