Council gives itself planning permission for flag pole

WARRINGTON Borough Council has given itself planning permission for a new flag pole on the Town Hall.
Members of the development management committee have approved an application from the council to remove the existing pole, replace it with a new one and also replace the existing access gangway and stairs. The work will require the temporary, partial removal of roof coverings.
But the replacement of the old, timber gangway and stairs with a galvanised steel facility will improve safety
The Grade 1 listed Town Hall was built in 1750 as a stately home for a local businessman but the flagpole was only added when the building was acquired by the council and converted to a Town Hall in 1870.
Planning officers say the changes will not result in any significant change in the appearance of the building when viewed from ground level.
