The delivery process can be a tough one for your parcel if it wasn’t packed properly.

No matter how careful the delivery drivers are, transportation can damage your items if they are not protected enough. That is why you should use the following tips that will ensure the safety of your parcel.

Use internal packaging

Each empty space can be a risk for your items. That is why you should use inner packaging and fill everything. Polyethylene foam, polystyrene and bubble wrap are all good options, or you can even use some cheaper alternatives like fabric or paper and place them around your items to protect them.

The item should be placed in the center of the box and you have to make sure that it does not touch any of the sides. Use anything you can to cushion it until it does not move around. This way, moving the box won’t damage your items.

Don’t use soft materials for outer packaging

The things you ship must be placed in a box or something sturdy so that they are protected. That is why you should not use cloth or fabric for this. While you can easily use them as internal packaging, you should then place them in a box.

Use insurance

While this is not necessary a packaging tip, it will help you if your goods are damaged. Best way to deliver parcels is through shipping services that insure your parcel. This way, if something happens to your item, you will at least receive a sum of money. While, it is not the best option, it is still something that can come in handy.

Place labels on the parcel

A label must be placed on the package and it must contain the address. If you choose to handwrite it, make sure that it is clear enough and anyone can read it. Additionally, place the label in the center and don’t cover it with tape or anything else.

You can try placing two labels, just in case something happens to one of them, and it is also recommended to add the details inside the package as well. This way, the parcel will be delivered to its destination.

Choose the right materials

Picking the right kind of box is one of the most important steps. Choose a box that has the correct size and can handle the weight of your goods. The right material should be one that is sturdy and can’t be damaged easily.

If you choose to reuse a cardboard box you have to be very careful. In most cases, old packaging is not strong enough and won’t be able to protect your items during the delivery process. Old boxes are also tricky, since the can have old labels. If that is the case make sure that you remove them and place the correct ones, since there are couriers who use automatic reading systems and they might get the wrong address.
