New Turkish restaurant planned

A NEW Turkish restaurant will open in Winwick Street, Warrington – if planning bosses give the go-ahead.
The proposal is due to come before the borough council’s development management committee on Wednesday and officers are recommending it be approved.
But the owner of an adjacent hot food takeaway has expressed concern that if the restaurant also sells takeaway food, it could damage his business. He wants a restriction to prevent the restaurant selling takeaway food.

But officers say such a restriction would be unlawful.

The property concerned is at the junction of Winwick Street and Haydock Street and is opposite a car park and car wash facility. It is at the northern end of the Winwick Street Conservation Area which is considered to be an area of possible archaeological importance.
However, officers believe the change of use of the building from shop to restaurant would not have a damaging impact on the character of the area.
