Chapel to become emergency night shelter

1

A PLAN to convert a chapel and meeting room at Warrington’s James Lee House Salvation Army hostel into emergency overnight rooms is to be put to borough council planning chiefs tomorrow.
The new accommodation would cater for the homeless or those at risk of becoming homeless, according to a report to the development management committee.
Public health chiefs believe the new provision would ensure those in need of emergency gencyare safely houses and would have access to appropriate support for their needs, including substance misuse.
No additional staff would be required as the premises is staffed by the Salvation Army with people adequately trained and experienced to provide support.
The aim would be to resettle individuals into permanent accommodation.
Officers are recommending the scheme be approved.

  1. It is a little misleading of the headline to read “Chapel to become emergency night shelter”, when the planning meeting won’t be happening until tomorrow night.
