Work to start on £19 million railway station

WORK could start before the end of the month on Warrington’s long-awaited £19.694 million Chapelford railway station.
Borough council chiefs are expected to approval the final funding package at a meeting on Monday.
It will come from the Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership, the Department for Transport, developer contributions and borough council borrowing.
Two years ago, the cost of the project was put at £13 million but inflation and a number of changes has caused the cost to spiral.
However, council chiefs remain confident it remains good value for money.
The station is seen as serving the Chapelford Urban Village, surrounding residential areas and also the Omega, Gemini and Lingley Mere employment areas.
It will have a high quality station building, platforms future-proofed for eight carriage trains, a footbridge with lifts to each platform, pay and display parking for 245 vehicles, taxi ranks and bus stop facilities.
It is expected construction will take about 18 months.
