Launch of new community bus service in Warrington

TWO community initiatives have been launched in Warrington following the purchase of an accessible minibus by Fairfield and Howley Neighbourhood Project.

The Project will lend the bus to Burtonwood and Winwick Community Bus every Thursday and Friday. It will provide a service to all members of the Burtonwood and Winwick Community on a not-for-profit basis in a service run largely by volunteers.

All volunteers working with the public will receive full training and be DBS checked. In order to use the service you need to be a member, which is free.

Service Co-Ordinator, Sarah Anders, said “We are still looking for volunteers for all roles. To drive for us you need to be 25-70 and have held a full licence for two years. We are really looking forward to supporting the community for shopping, work, hospital appointments or community activities”.

Cllr Cathy Mitchell, who is leading the Community Bus project, said “We are really grateful to Fairfield and Howley Neighbourhood Project for helping us to get this off the ground. We are fundraising for a bus of our own, but this means we can start much sooner”

To help in any way please call Sarah on 07714 718 470 or email her on [email protected]

Fairfield and Howley Neighbourhood Project will lend the bus to local community groups and have already had a lot of interest in the new bus.

Ian Smith, Manager, said “This service will help to transform lives and help to tackle social isolation locally, we are also looking for volunteer drivers”.

If you are involved in a community project and would like to more information contact the Fairfield and Howley Neighbourhood Project. They are offering yearly low cost membership, depending on how often you would use the bus. Contact Ian on 01925 418633 [email protected]
