STAFF and service users from Warrington’s “Pathways to Recovery”, a council-commissioned drug and alcohol recovery service under health and social care charity Change, Grow, Live (CGL), will take part in the UK Recovery Walk on Saturday.
Seven CGL services have joined forces to take part in the walk at Blackpool – totalling about 500 service users and staff.
The walk celebrates individual journeys to recovery from substance misuse and breakdown associated stigmas, from services including Warrington, Knowsley, Wirral, Blackburn,Halton, Tameside and North Lancashire.
The event has been organised by Faces And Voices Of Recovery UK (FAVOR) with Blackpool’s Horizon drug and alcohol treatment service, as part of September’s National Recovery Month. Around 8,000 people are expected to take part in the two mile long walk, which will start at the South Pier and end at the Winter Gardens.
Other organisations involved include Delphi Medical, Red Rose Recovery, The Well and the Lancashire User Forum. For the past nine years, the walks have been organised by local community groups in partnership with treatment agencies, people in recovery and their families and friends.
Katie Egan, Partnerships and Recovery Development Lead at CGL’s Inspire North Lancashire service, said: “We have a long history of participating and hosting the National Recovery Walk and are strong advocates of community involvement and bringing everyone together for these events. Visible recovery can have a huge impact on communities and we are proud to be involved in this event.
“We’re expecting a big turnout, and can’t wait to see service users, staff and the local community coming together on the day to celebrate recovery.”
