Rain robs Grappers of victory

RAIN robbed Grappenhall of an almost certain victory at Didsbury  in the Vivio Cheshire County League premier division.
The game was reduced to 33 overs due to the weather and the home side posted 155-5, Gaz Burns taking 2-46 and Arran McCabe 2-32.
Opener Peter Barnes hit a fine 50 as Grappers got well on course for victory but then the rain returned meaning they lost a further eight overs. At the close they were just 20 short of victory with three wickets in hand.
Grappenhall 2nd won comfortably at home before the rains came.  Visitors Widnes were rolled over for 65, with Matt Titchard taking 5-17 and Steve Rooney also picking up three wickets.
Grappers knocked off the runs inside 10 overs without losing a wicket.
Albert Pennington hit a sparkling 92 for Grappenhall 3rd against Didsbury in another game shortened by the weather.  But it wasn’t enough and the game ended in a draw with Grappers still 16 runs short with one wicket remaining.  David Seed took three wickets at Didsbury were dismissed for 179.
Warrington were also affected by the weather when they were put in on a damp wicket by Bollington.
They were soon in trouble and even a fightback by Liam Heaphey, 26 and Johan Els, 20 was enough to turn the tables. Warrington ended up all out for 92.
They had Bollington reeling at 20-4, with Ashley Scholes taking 3-26 and Els 1-16, but then the visitors fought back to earn a six wicket victory.
Warrington 2nd reached 195-6 against Brooklands, mainly due to Harley Barrett, who anchored the innings with a patient 65, James Lewis, 59 and a quick fire 22 from Isaac Webster. Brooklands had no answer to the Warrington attack and were bowled out for 56.
Simon Hewitt took 3-30, Chia Gadepalli, 2-12 in nine overs, Phil Whelan, 3-4 and Davie Lee 1-2.
Warrington 3rd bundled out Bunbury for 78 runs, Archie Kellett taking 3-23 and Vicram  Palanisamy 3-7.
They had no trouble in reaching their target as 14-year-old Archie Kellett hit an unbeaten 50 to give them an eight wicket victory in 17 overs.
Warrington 4th’s game with Timperley was abandoned to the rain after Timperley had hit 206-2. Jon Burgess took2-37.
In the Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park cantered to a 10 wicket victory at Stockport Georgians after restricting the home side to 129-9. Jonathanb Fletcher took 7-41 and Syed Khan 2-33.
Openers Matthew Bradshaw and Mathew Carr matched each other run-by-run as they both hit 63 not out to carry Lymm to victory.
Appleton’s game at Wistaston Village was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
But Appleton 3rd raced to a 10-wicket victory over Styal and restricting the visitors to 97-9, Danny Oliver taking 3-24,  Roger Cawthorne 2-23 and  Jim Warham 2-17.
Ed Sygrove hit 64 not out and David Hurst 27 not out as Appleton responded with 98-0.
Appleton 4th hitg 167-5 against Trafford Metrovics, with Paul White hitting a wildfire 91, including 12 fours and four sixes. Metrovics replace with 171-6, Michael Ormison taking 3-22 and Joe Roberts 2-52.
Stretton were held to a drawn by Wirrall after hitting 144, Ali Zubain top scoring with 50. Wirrall hung on at the close to post 80-8,  Zubain completing a fine all-round performance with 6-9.
