Cycle storage container approved at children’s centre

PLANS have been approved for a storage container on an overflow car park at Great Sankey Children’s Centre to provide accommodation for a cycle-repair project for vulnerable youngsters.
The container will be used to store cycles which are repaired by young people aged 11-15 at weekly sessions at the children’s centre in Liverpool Road
A number of neighbours objected to the scheme on the grounds it could attract noisy youths and result in anti-social behaviour.
But the borough council’s development management committee was told the scheme was supervised by children’s centre staff so was unlikely to cause problems.

The scheme – known as Bike and Brew – is already in operation, but the cycles currently have to be stored at Orford.
Councillors approved the application for a period of 18 months.
