LENGTHY traffic queues have caused delays for motorists in Warrington town centre today after essential roadworks started at Brian Bevan Island, going back to Bridgefoot.
One land was closed as a result of the works and there were tailbacks along Mersey Street as far back as the Cockhedge roundabout.
A borough council spokesman said contractors were working as quickly as possible to complete the work.
In the meantime, drivers were advised to avoid the area if at all possible.
