Anti-hate campaigner Adrian Derbyshire takes on social media giants

ANTI-HATE campaigner Adrian Derbyshire is bidding to take on social media giants to do more to protect people from online bullying and abuse following the tragic death of his own daughter aged just 16.

He has been frustrated by the lack of feedback from social media giants Facebook, YouTube and Google, who have so far refused to meet him to discuss his concerns after his own daughter Julia Derbyshire took her life, following online bullying.

Adrian from Warrington, will be featuring on BBC’s The One Show tomorrow (Wednesday) highlighting his concerns.

Since releasing pictures of his daughter Julia on what would have been her 18th birthday just seconds away from turning life support off to raise awareness on the negative effects of abuse and online hate, Adrian has received over 11,000 messages and emails through www.AdrianDerbyshire.co.uk from around the world, where his #InspireBelieveSucceed #SASSY campaigns have now been translated into seven other languages.

Adrian said: “It’s given members of the public around the world the opportunity to open up, sometimes for the first time, about the loss of their children due to abuse and hate. Other families have written to me expressing their gratitude as their children have seen the media regarding Julia and our campaigns and have approached their parents in fear of their own mortality due to self harming to cope.

“We have also received thousands of messages from children and young adults themselves asking for help due to our campaigns.

“This just shows that this is an epidemic that filters through the world spreading messages of Hate, Stigma and Bullying.

Adrian added: “Since March 8th I’ve been invited onto BBC Breakfast TV, ITV Granada Reports, ITV Loose Women and I’ve just filmed for BBC’s The One Show where we take on Social Media giants such as YouTube, Facebook and Google.

“It’s unfortunate however that certain giants of social media and internet providers refuse to meet me for a debate on what they should be doing to achieve more security and support for children and adults using their products. This indicates to me their guilt in not providing adequate security measures into protecting the rights of decent human beings.”
