THREE men suspected of being rogue traders preying on vulnerable householders in Warrington have been ordered to leave the borough after being caught by police.
The men had been cold-calling in the Latchford area where a concerned resident alerted police, who were able to intercept the trio.
This followed a number of incidents across the borough in which rogue traders had approached people offering to do work such as clearing gutters and repairing roofs.
In one case, a couple who had agreed to pay £20 to have their gutters cleared were then told some of the roof tiles were loose and it would cost £100 to fix them. In this case, a relative arrived and was able to stop the men carrying out unnecessary work.
At Latchford, three men had been calling at homes offering to clear gutters. In one case, they attempted to get extra work for an inflated price but police arrived in time to prevent the householder handing over £100 for work that did not need doing.
The three men were issued with a dispersal order requiring them to leave the borough and not return within 48 hours. Their details were also handed over to Trading Standards for further enquiries to be made into possible further offences.
A police spokesman said anyone approached by cold-callers who had doubts about them should contact police on 101 immediately.
