The great Stockton Heath spring clean

VOLUNTEERS turned out in force at Stockton Heath to contribute to “The Great British Spring Clean.”
Over a period of three days, parish councillors, The Friends of Alexandra Park, representatives of the Stockton Heath Festival and other dedicated villagers were busy collecting litter from various parts of the village.
Ackers Pit, Alexandra Park, London Road, the Forge car park, Lumb Brook and other areas were blitzed by the litter-pickers.
The weather was variable. Cold most of the time, sunny occasionally, pouring with rain a lot of the time.
More than 50 bags of rubbish were collected, gutters were cleaned out and drainage grids unblocked.
The litter included plastic bottles, discarded carrier bags, used nappies, etc, as well as smaller items.
Leaves were swept from under bushes and hedges.
Friends of Alexandra Park opened up the pavilion to the volunteers for a welcome cuppa and a biscuit.
Staff at the Sandy Lane Recycling Centre accepted the rubbish collected and Esquire’s coffee shop provided discounted drinks for the volunteers.
Parish clerk Lara Jacob said: “The volunteers were heroes – every single one of them.”
