A programme to get families moving

A NEW programme to get families in Latchford moving more and eating healthier has launched thanks to funding from the Big Local Trust.
Over the next eight weeks, LiveWire will be delivering a number of sessions for families to take part in together to improve their fitness levels and their eating habits.
The Active Families project is the first programme of its kind to be run by LiveWire. It has a real focus on providing intergenerational activities that can support families to change their lifestyles.
Activities on offer as part of the project include; retro playground games, netball, swimming, yoga, dance, boxing, nutritional classes, and quizzes and games.
Paul Flannery, neighbourhood engagement officer at LiveWire, who is delivering the project, said: “This project has been developed following feedback from families whose children were attending Westy Boxing Club but wanted to improve the health and wellbeing of their entire family.
“We identified that there was a real need for family activity in the area, and in particular work to do around encouraging healthy living.
“We applied for funding through the Latch Ford Big Local Area and are pleased to have been successful so we can deliver sessions to enhance the lives of entire families in the area.”
The Big Local Trust was established by Local Trust and the Big Lottery Fund to support 150 communities in England – giving them their share of an almost £200 million National Lottery money between now and 2026 to facilitate projects which promote community cohesion.
It is the second time LiveWire has benefited from funding from the Latch Ford Big Local Area – the neighbourhood wellbeing company was awarded a grant earlier this year to run the This Girl Can programme in Latchford and Westy.
