Popular restaurant removes controversial canopy

A popular Stockton Heath restaurant has removed a controversial canopy after a long running battle with Warrington planners.

Piccolino’s Italian Restaurant on London Road, Stockton Heath, erected the controversial canopy without planning permission – and appealed against enforcement action by the council.

The canopy allowed diners to enjoy alfresco dining over looking London Road, protected from the elements.
It opened in July 2015. By the December they were being threatened with enforcement action for not seeking planning permission.

Last April the restaurant announced they would fight any proposed enforcement action, claiming they did not require planning permission for what they described as large parasols.

But in January the restaurant lost its appeal to the planning inspectorate and was ordered to remove the retractable parasols which had been secured to the Listed building.

Workmen were seen taking the canopy down over a two day period this week.
