PLANS for a proposed flood defence embankment and the realignment of Padgate Brook have been given the green light.
The scheme, submitted by the Environment Agency, is a continuation of the major flood defence works which have been ongoing in Warrington for several years.
It is part of a third phase of works and involves land at the rear of Orford Road.
They include flood defence works to a gas regulator station, with landscaping and other associated work.
The committee was told the location and site of the work remained largely unchanged from that envisaged in an outline application submitted in 2011.
A new earth flood embankment will be constructed on land off Orford Road and a stretch of Padgate Brook will be realigned an de-culverted. The new embankment will tie in to higher ground at Birchwood Way and to a Network Rail embankment to the south. It will be 1.2 metres above local ground level at its highest point.
Protection works, including the installation of flood doors will be carried out at the gas regulator station to the north of the main works.
The majority of the site is currently used for horse paddocks.
