Warrington man dies in three vehicle crash at Widnes

A 48-year-old man believed to be from Warrington has tragically died following a three vehicle crash at Widnes yesterday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the road traffic collision involving three cars with reports of one person trapped when a silver Vauxhall Vectra came off the A562 Speke Road Liverpool bound carriageway, close to the junction of the Knowsley Expressway.

The crew stabilised one of the vehicles which was in a ditch as a precaution and assisted paramedics with first aid. Sadly, the driver of one of the vehicles died at the scene.

Cheshire Police have issued the following statement in relation to this collision.

“Police investigating a fatal collision in Widnes are appealing for witnesses.

At 4.35pm on Tuesday 3 January 2017, a silver Vauxhall Vectra came off the A562 Speke Road Liverpool bound carriageway, close to the junction of the Knowsley Expressway.

The driver of the vehicle, believed to be a 48-year-old man from Warrington, sadly died at the scene. A child, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was taken to Alder Hey as a precautionary measure.

Next of kin are being informed and a formal ID is due to take place today.

Anyone with any information in relation to the collision is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 566 of 3 January 2017.”
