Residents call for action over dangerous dog

RESIDENTS are urging police to take action against the owner of an alleged dangerous dog after a pet labrador was attacked at Houghton Green, following up to six similar incidents in the area.

Holly Bennett, aged 25, was walking her six-year-old labrador Lola on a lead near the Plough Inn at Houghton Green at around 4pm on Wednesday, with her parents Christine and Gareth, when they noticed a large dog off lead.

“It ran up barking and went straight for Lola and gripped her around the throat and wouldn’t let go.It was terrifying,” said Holly.

Holly’s father joined in trying to pull the dog off and suffered cuts to his hand. The owner of the dog walked over and tried to help and eventually got a choker lead around its neck and pulled it away.

The attack took place near Peel Hall Kennels, who checked over Lola, who had suffered bruising and swelling but fortunately no puncture wounds.

Holly, who managed to get a photograph of the dog and owner, added: “We were told there had been a number of complaints about this dog. Apparently since February there have been five or six incidents.

“It is insane that this dog and owner are allowed out in public.”

The dog involved in the attacks is believed to be an Irish Blue Staffordshire.

Such is the concern of the number of attacks in the area one local resident Adrian Johnson-Taylor has posted a warning on facebook.

He said: “It is quite clear that the owner of this dog is irresponsible and unable to keep it under proper control.

“The dog has been seized by the police following previous complaints but was handed back when the owner promised to keep it on a lead and muzzled.

“Sooner or later a dog will be seriously injured or killed – or even worse it could be a child.

“We have warned the authorities but they don’t seem to be taking the matter seriously.”

Mr Johnson Taylor posted on social media: “Warning everyone! This is the man and dog responsible for several attacks on dogs in the Cinnamon Brow area.

“The police have been involved but they thought it appropriate to ‘close the case’ several months ago! This dog attacked a Labrador this afternoon AGAIN!!!! at approx 4pm on Radley Lane.

“The Labrador was on her lead and this dog was off its lead and launched itself onto her throat. This dog has attacked at least five times, causing serious injuries. It has also bitten one dog walker as he was trying to save his dog. Anyone who has any information about this man/dog should contact Cheshire Police quoting Incident Number 544/Dec 28th”
