New bells set to ring out for Christmas

1

IN recent years the only peal of church bells in central Warrington has been the eight bell carillon in St Elphin’s (Warrington Parish Church) at the end of Church St.

Now they will be joined by am eight bell carillon in St Mary’s at the other end of Church St, originally installed in 1908 and now restored and ringing the Angelus every day at dawn, midday and dusk as well as a full Bob Major on Sundays at 10.45am.

They will be joined on Christmas Eve by a new eight bell carillon which has been installed in St Thomas’s in Stockton Heath.

Meanwhile Warrington Civic Society is in the process of buying the former bell from St Thomas’s and is presently looking for a suitable site in the town.
