Warrington parking ticket scam exposed

MOTORISTS in Warrington were put on alert today after a number of scam parking charge “reminders” were received by email.
The alert came from iCAN, the Warrington Consumer Alert Network.
An iCAN member, who works in the town centre, contacted police after several members of her team received an email headed “UKPC Parking Charge Reminder” purporting to come from a company called UK Parking Control Ltd (UKPC).
The email included an official looking “Notice To Ticket Holder” stating that the recipient has parked on private land and that a charge has been incurred.
There are links on the email that claim to provide further details and a photo.
The iCAN member immediately realised it was a scam as she and other members of the team don’t drive!
UKPC have confirmed that they do not send parking charges by email and this particular scam was highlighted by Action Fraud earlier this month.
Anyone who receives a similar email should not open any of the links and should not pay the charges demanded.
A police spokesman said: “Please pass this information to family, friends, neighbours and anyone else who may be vulnerable.”
