Plan to remove 39 phone boxes across Warrington

BT is planning to remove 39 telephone boxes across Warrington – but is first consulting with members of the public.
The borough council is carrying out a public consultation on behalf of BT to find out what people think about the proposal.
Nineteen of the 39 phone boxes have not been used at all in the last 12 months – and only two have been used more than 100 times.
The most-used kiosk on the closure list is at the junction of Saville Avenue and Folly Lane and was used 378 times.
The next most used was at the Junction of Widnes Road and Warrington Road, Penketh, which was used 110 times.
A full breakdown of the phone boxes can be found on the council’s website at www.warrington.gov.uk/consultations, along with the number of calls made from each phone box in the last 12 months.
No emergency calls were made from any of the phones over this time.
BT proposes to remove the boxes due to lack of use and the rise in mobile phone coverage over the last few years.
The consultation process also gives local people the opportunity to adopt a traditional red “heritage” phone box and make them a community asset. Six of  the phone boxes being considered for removal are the traditional red ones.
To provide feedback to the consultation, complete the online survey
www.warrington.gov.uk/consultations by Friday, December 2.
