Council to provide a home for brain injured men

WARRINGTON Borough Council chiefs are being recommended to provide a home for four men with brain injuries who currently live in specialist residential units outside the borough.
All four men previously lived in Warrington and have expressed a wish to return to the town.
Members of the council’s executive board are being recommended to agree to the purchase, adaptation and improvement of an identified property to provide homes for the men within a budget of £585,700.
But a report to the council’s executive board, to be presented on Monday by Cllr Maureen McLaughlin (pictured), lead member for public health and wellbeing, indicates that savings of more than £308,000 a year, to be shared by the council and Warrington Clinical Commission Group.
One of the four men is an ex-serviceman. Three of the four would benefit from improved contact with their families. All four would benefit from a more normalised living environment.
The property which the council hope to acquire will have four good sized bedrooms,  an additional “sleep room” for a member of staff, level access to front and rear, a garden and should be detached to avoid noise issues and provide personal space.
At present there are no suitable properties in Warrington to meet the needs of the four men.  Acquisition of one would provide an asset in the long term which would be likely to increase in value.
