TWO schools in Warrington have been digging in to find and create a meal for school dinners with a trip to Kenyon Hall Farm, Culcheth.
Year 3 children from Bruche Primary and St Margaret’s Primary, Orford, visited the farm to pick up pumpkins for their winter school meals menus.
The school meals team at Warrington Borough Council is encouraging children, parents and teachers to get involved with the future of school meals and are using this opportunity to create a meal together using the freshly sourced ingredients from Kenyon Hall.
The schools picked pumpkins followed by a cooking lesson to show how to prepare pumpkin cake which will be a new dish on the school meals menu early next year.
Cllr Jean Carter (pictured) , the council’s lead member for children’s services, said: “The children really enjoyed their trip to the farm and learned a lot about where their food comes from.
“Our teams are always looking for ways to improve the healthy and nutritious meals and it’s great to involve children and parents with the new menus.”
