Police hunt for Great Sankey robbery gang

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two teenagers were attacked, threatened with a blade and robbed of a bicycle by a gang of youths at Great Sankey.

The incident took place at approximately 9.00pm on Monday , October 10, when the victims, two local boys aged 15 and 16, were travelling along Mile path, Great Sankey, with a group of friends.

As the group approached Whittle Hall Lane, from the direction of Barrow Hall Lane, they saw a group of 7 to 8 youths wearing balaclavas at the entrance to Whittle Hall Lane.

The youths ran towards the group of friends and began to threaten them and demanded that one of victims, a 15-year-old boy, handed over his bicycle, a black and yellow Carerra Valour mountain bike. During the robbery the victim was threatened with a bladed item.

After handing over his bike the victim began to walk away but was then assaulted from behind and punched to the back of the head. Meanwhile, a second victim, a 16-year-old boy who was on foot, was also assaulted by one of the youths wearing balaclavas. Both of the victims managed to escape and ran off in the direction of Barrow Hall Lane, the offenders left the scene it in the direction of Whittle Hall Lane.

One offender is described as a man, approximately 6ft tall, of a medium build with a Liverpudlian accent, wearing all dark clothing and gloves. A second offender is described as approximately 5’9” tall, of small build and wearing a dark coloured hip length jacket.

Investigating Officer DC Neil Orford said “We are currently following a number of lines of enquiry and as part of my investigation I’m keen to speak to anyone who believes that they may be able to assist our investigation.

“I urge anyone with any information in relation to the incident to contact the team here at Warrington so the offenders can be brought to justice.”

Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 1023 of 10 October 2016. Information can also be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
