Town’s young people urged to “aim high”

A COMPETITION to encourage all young people in Warrington to aim high has been launched by the borough council’s fostering service.
The service is offering young people in three age categories: Under seven, eight to 12, and 13-18, the chance to have their dreams made a reality for one day. The competition is open to all young people – not just those who are fostered and adopted.
Budding chefs could be taken behind the scenes to whip up a dish at a top restaurant; wannabe writers might man the news desk of a local newspaper or magazine; fitness fanatics could be given the chance to train with an elite squad; and future firefighters may find themselves working with the pros on a simulated emergency, for example.
Cllr Jean Carter (pictured), the borough council’s lead member for Children and Families said: “Encouraging and supporting all children and young people to reach their potential is one of our top our priorities. This competition is a great chance for them to sit down and think about
the exciting and varied career opportunities available to them. Whether they are academic, creative or practical, we want to highlight that all young people can be successful on their chosen path.
“I’m encouraging all young people in the borough to enter, and wish them the best of luck. Deciding on the winners will undoubtedly be a challenge for the Children in Care Council, and I’m looking forward to seeing all the entries. Aim high!”
Nicole, 17, who lives with Warrington Foster Carers Jackie and Bob, said: “I’ve lived with Jackie and Bob since I was nine, and they have truly turned my life around. I was living in chaos and not having any kind of childhood.
“They’ve given me love, stability and care and made me part of their family. They’ve supported my hobbies; I love to sing and they’ve taken me to every class and watched me in every performance. They even found me a course to make my dreams of becoming a dental nurse a reality. I qualify in a few weeks.
“I hope the competition will encourage other young people to have ambitions too. And maybe being a foster carer could be yours?”
