TOWN Hall chiefs at Warrington will decide next week whether to seek compulsory purchase powers for land needed for the key Centre Park Link scheme.
Members of the borough council’s executive board will be discussing on Monday the latest development in the scheme, initial work on which has already started.
Land on Chester Road, previously home to a car showroom, has been purchased and the site secured
The executive board will have to decide whether to apply for compulsory purchase orders which may be necessary for land integral to the project.
The Centre Park Link project will deliver a new bridge over the Mersey  and a link road from Chester Road to Slutchers Lane to alleviate traffic congestion around Bridge Foot and Chester Road.
It will also provide a link to land south of Centre Park which currently has no access.
Cllr Hans Mundry, lead member for highways, said: “We are very pleased to have acquired the first plot of land as part of this ambitious project.
The new bridge and link road should make it much easier and quicker to get around the centre of Warrington.
“It is vital that we continue to invest in the infrastructure of the borough to ensure that we can grow and make Warrington an even better place to live, work and do business.”
The council will be carefully considering the results of recent consultations when making any adjustments to the scheme in the future.
