A BUSINESS owner from Appleton has been shortlisted as Sole Trader of the Year by the British Small Business Awards, a national award celebrating the UK’s small business sector and recognising the nation’s best small companies.

Susan Kemp is the owner and instructor of Appleton Baby Massage and has been teaching baby massage and baby yoga to new parents since January 2013. Additionally, Susan delivers classes in children’s centres and nurseries.

“I’m delighted to have been shortlisted, it gives me a huge sense of achievement” said Susan.

“I have built this business from scratch and my classes have been really popular with mums and dads. So much so parents are returning with their second babies.

“I offer a calming experience where parents learn new skills, with the chance to make new friends and chat over tea and homemade cakes.

“I love my job and its flexibility as it means I am around for my young daughter”.

The awards are organised by smallbusiness.co.uk, a website publisher aimed at small businesses.

The Sole Trader of the Year category represents Britain’s most common type of business and Susan is through to the final stage from a high number of nominations put forward. She will attend the ceremony in London in October, when the winner will be announced.

This latest nomination follows previous successful wins – Start Up Business of the Year 2014 by Mumandworking.co.uk and Best Business Start UP 2012 by local MP for South Warrington, David Mowat, following successful completion of a business enterprise scheme.
