Half BHS staff given new jobs on the doorstep

MORE than half of the staff from the Warrington branch of British Homes Stores facing redundancy following the collapse of the company earlier this year, have found new roles at nearby Debenhams.

In a major recruitment drive by Debenhams, 27 of the former BHS staff have taken up roles ranging from the sales floor to senior management.  Many have also been identified as promising talent and put onto the company’s fast track talent programme.

Forty staff lost their jobs at BHS in Warrington and faced an uncertain future.

But Debenhams store manager Rhea Price, said: “Some BHS colleagues had worked for the retailer for more than 30 years – one of the managers first started working there from the tender age of 16 and never had a single interview.

“We started by collaborating with BHS to ensure that every member from the Warrington BHS branch had the opportunity to take part in coaching and interview preparation exercises, we then set up dedicated assessment centres to support this process.

“As a result, we have found some exceptional people who’ve been given a fresh start on a promising career path.”
