Julie seeks help flying the flag at Warrington Cenotaph

A woman who campaigned tirelessly for improvements to Warrington’s cenotaph on Bridge Foot is having to take a backward step due to health problems.

Julie Frances has closed down her facebook page Warrington war memorial/Cenotaph, although she is hoping to “keep the flag flying” which she successfully campaigned for following the death of her veteran dad.

Julie, who lives on Chester Road, Warrington, said: “My deteriorating health is the main reason I am stopping the campaign.

“My health has to come first after more than three years of campaigning.

“I am truely gutted I cant carry on but I have to live day to day and i cant plan ahead no more. I don’t know wether I can walk oneday to the next.

“I felt as though I was fighting a losing battle at times. But atleast I have helped gain two new crossings, benches and cleaning of the site and regular garden checks.”
Other successes included getting the Royal British Legion riders to do a poppy wreath drop last year, which has never happened before.

Her most notable success was getting the council to agree to the Union Jack flag being flown all year round, which has been lowered during terrorist atrocities.

She hopes this can continue and would like to hear from anyone who can help assist with flying the flag.
She can be contacted at [email protected]
