Man arrested after taking drunken dip in Mersey

A man has been arrested by police after taking an alleged drunken dip in the River Mersey at Warrington at 7am this morning.

It is alleged that the man was swimming about, shouting racial abuse and using foul language.

He was “fished out” and arrested by police.

A companion allegedly became verbally abusive during the arrest and joined him in custody.

  1. What a pair of idiots, the drunken one in the water could have easily drowned and also put his rescuers lives in danger !! He should be thankful he is in custody and not body bag. Surely he knew the river is tidal and fast flowing at times not to mention all the mud/silt banks he could have got stuck in !! Shame the police didn’t tie him and his verbally abusive companion to ropes and throw them both back in a few times to sober them up and realise the error of their ways.
