CHESHIRE’S Police and Crime Commissioner David Keane will tonight be joining forces with Chief Officer Celyvn Jones and the county’s Special Constabulary – volunteers with police powers – to police the streets of Warrington, Chester and Ellesmere Port.
He said: “I’m excited about the opportunity to go out on patrol with our Special Constables. The fact that they give up their spare time, and juggle their work and home lives to get out there and police our communities is something we should all be proud of.
“Members of the Special Constabulary come from all walks of life, from all backgrounds, and bring a fresh perspective to policing in Cheshire. “Our Special Constables work closely with local police teams, and provide an important supplement to the work they do.
“Cheshire Constabulary currently includes more than 400 Special Constables, providing an additional 11,000 hours of policing per month, who are integrated into the frontline team of 2,053 regular officers.
“Specials have the same police powers as regular officers, and will provide support ranging from day to day patrols to large crime operations through to community events.
“To be a member of the Special Constabulary takes real dedication, which should be recognised. I’m really looking forward to seeing them in action this evening helping to ensure people feel safe on our streets.”
