TWO new easily accessible swimming pools at to be built at Great Sankey – but the project will mean the existing pool has to close for about 12 months.
The new pools will be provided as part of the Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub project on the site of the existing Great Sankey Leisure Centre.
Wednesday, August 24 is the date set for the closure.
Both the main pool and training pool will be upgraded to deck level swimming pools that provide a superior swimming experience as part of the £16 million project.
The training pool will be extended to allow for additional capacity during swimming lessons and both pools will be easier to access for all users with a new pool hoist installed.
LiveWire’s Learn to Swim programme will be relocated to Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub and squad sessions will be moved to other LiveWire sites with public swim continuing to be available
at other sites.
Vicki Dunning, strategic lead for leisure facilities at LiveWire, said: “As part of this dementia friendly development, it is imperative that we provide two swimming pools that can be easily accessed by all of our customers.
“Inevitably with such major investments works to the pools and the site, the pool will have to close in order for the work to be carried out.
“We have made every effort to minimise disruption during this period and all scheduled swimming sessions will continue to be available across our other three pools across the town.
“We thank all our customers in advance for their continued cooperation and patience while the work is being carried out.”
LiveWire customers will receive notification of changes to swim sessions in the coming days
and staff are happy to help with any questions or information about alternative sessions.
